Product Description
The bestselling analysis of Jewish history, by a leading Israeli historian. Demolishing the myths and taboos that have surrounded Jewish and Israeli history, The Invention of the Jewish People offers a new account of both that demands to be read and reckoned with. Was there really a forced exile in the first century at the hands of the Romans? Should we regard the Jewish people, throughout two millennia, as both a distinct ethnic group and a putati… More >>

Another attempt to delegitimize the State of Israel. The book is so full of distortions, errors and lies that it would take a 3 page review to list them. As a warning to people who are thinking of buying the book based on the reviews by Israelis; Avram Burg is one of the most ridiculed people across the political spectrum in Israel and Tom Segev is one of the “new historians” who writes history while leaving out large chunks of facts that don’t support his thesis.

I admit, I have not yet read this fine piece of literature. However, I have ordered it along with the two other books which Amazon claims its readers “frequently buy together” — Zionism: The Real Enemy of the Jews, and Debating the Holocaust: A New Look At Both Sides.
You know you can expect good honest debate when a book features both a Star of David and a swastika. How even-handed!
Perhaps after reading these page-turners, I’ll move on to other reader-recommended books, like Synagogue of Satan, or Norman Finkelstein’s The Holocaust Industry.
On second thought, maybe I’ll just judge this book by the company it keeps, which appears to be cranks, Nazis and Holocaust-deniers.

The author clearly writes this book with the intent of demonizing the Jewish people and Israel. the author clearly starts with his judgements and then attempts to find historical evidence that backs his claims. any true researcher would examine all the facts and then develop his conclusions.
this is a book that will only be enjoyed by hateful people with no moral compass.

Resentment is a dangerous emotion. Shlomo Sand obviously is a third or fourth generation person suffering from this: a marginal, unattractive person who never managed to be acceptable to mainstream Israeli sociaty is “paying back” in very badly written and poorly researched prose. One thing it did for the author: from total obscurity, it has placed him into the limelight. I am sorry (for him) but such shallow thinking will only keep him there for a short time and he will have to revert then to oblivion. (That is where he belongs)
Of course there are those who welcome and celebrate this book but then, there is an audience for every outlandish, bizarre trash that finds its way into print.

What book could be more fitting for today’s political climate? Clearly, this tome which combines a denial of the Jewish people’s existence with an implicit belittling of their right to live in Israel is right on the money–literally, I assume, as it’s hard to imagine any Jewish person being so corrupt as to write this drivel for any other reason. In essence, this thesis goes beyond the current Arab sentiment denying Israel’s right to exist, and even beyond the traditional terrorist mentality of denying Israel’s existence itself, to actually denying the ancient origin of the existence of the Jewish people at all.
I’m glad Amazon recommended this book to me, so that I can be aware of the threats facing my people (yes, the one that has existed for millenia, that has survived many the like of Shlomo Sand). I am confident that Amazon will be similarly recommending Rabbi Meir Kahane’s books to pro-Arab customers.
